my garden - 2010

A little update on my garden.  The herbs are doing well, but my tomatoes and peppers are still kind of small.  Although, they did start from seeds, so I guess that’s still a little impressive.

A visit from the McQs!

This weekend we were so blessed to have a visit from Ben and Lo!  They were in town to see family and made a trip down to see us!  We started the day with a little visit to Yats (yum!).  Then, even though it was a sweltering 87 degrees, we went the Indianapolis Museum of Art’s gardens.  I’ve always heard they are beautiful and we thought we would check them out.

The gardens were very beautiful!  We actually saw several families getting their pictures taken, so that has to say something.  After we finished and cooled off for a bit at our house (and played a few rounds of Sequence) we headed to dinner.  Dinner was another first for us, at the Rooftop Gardens in Fountain Square.

The food was actually very delicious and reasonable.  The food is served from a cafe in the same building.  But it was nice to sit, eat, and watch the sun go down over the city.  Definitely recommend this place.  What a great day with some of our favorite people :)

one of my favorite weeks of the year…

That is a pretty bold statement I would say.  But it’s true, for about one week every spring all of the magnolia trees are in full bloom.  I think they are beautiful and smell wonderful!

These pictures actually came from the Magnolia bush in our backyard, but I still think they are very pretty.  I had to throw in a picture of the dogwood tree in our backyard about to bloom as well…

And lastly, a little white puff ball tree!

Anyway, Happy Spring from the Sawrie backyard!

and they're growing!

I am always amazing that plants actually grow from seeds.  I know this sounds elementary, but I love it.  Even when I was little we would take apple seeds, put them in wet paper towels in the fridge and check on them every day to watch them grow.  Anyway, here is how mine are coming along so far!

Sorry for the poor lighting…they aren’t really neon green.  :)

seeds.

Giving it another go this year!  I planted my seeds a few days ago, and hope they start to sprout soon!

my green thumb

So now that we live in a house, I have been really excited to plant a small garden. I know that it's July and this should be done in May (Kentucky Derby day actually, according to Scott Herre)...but I couldn't resist. Here are my small plants, which are a little embarrassing when compared to my neighbors. His tomato plants are taller than me. He was outside when I was taking these pictures, so I will have to capture their enormity another time and share them with you. The beautiful thing about planting your garden so late is that they are all on sale! So, I decided to get some diversity and planted tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, eggplant and strawberries. We'll see if I actually get to harvest anything before the winter :) I should also add that I planted some herbs as well...which were also on sale!

My baby plants

Oregano, mint, sage, and basil...
